Is Cheerleading Really a Sport?

Cheerleading is a different kind of sport. There is no off-season and on top of supporting teams, cheerleaders support each other.  Cheerleading isn’t just about standing there and looking pretty, and being loud with a smile on your face.  There is school cheerleading which is there to support the teams and keep the fans all riled up and supporting the teams then there is competition cheerleading. The competition teams are much more involved and are more about impressing the judges. There is a lot of debate about whether or not cheerleading for schools doesn’t mean anything and that it’s stupid. People think that if you cheer for a national team that’s what cheerleading really is all about.  Either way. If you cheer for a school team or are on a competition team, both require a huge amount of work. It’s not about just standing there screaming cheers. There is tumbling involved and jumping and hitting the right motions, and making sure that everything is together. It’s not easy to look the best you can be and impress the fans to make them spirited!
Imagine a basketball game without cheerleaders. Of course the game wouldn’t be dead silent but the gym definitely would be a lot more quiet! Yes the fans would still clap and cheer but during time outs but they just sit there. They cheerleaders goal is to keep them involved and into the game. Winning or loosing cheerleaders always have high spirits. Cheerleading should be considered a sport even though it’s not a main, popular sport. There is just as much hard work done as in basketball or football.
